Dreams
Questions from
viewers about dreams and
what they may mean or represent.
Ruth – Why do I keep having dreams about finding myself
naked in public places?
Doctor Leon – The interpretation of dreams is a hopeless
exercise in fantasy – mostly the fantasy of psychoanalysts. Here
though, are some possibilities for your consideration:
- You should ask your parents if there is any history of sleep-walking in either of their families.
If there is, or they don’t know, blame them for your problem. That may
leave you with bigger problems to contend with but at least you’ll
know it’s not your fault.
- You may mistrust someone close to you, in which case the dreams of nakedness are an expression of your belief that
the person you trust will ultimately betray you.
- Someone may be turning off the air-conditioning at night and your dreams are merely a subliminal message from your nervous system telling you
it’s too hot.
- The dreams may represent your pride in your own physical attractiveness.
Nothing wrong with that, but it’s obviously gone to your head. Lets
face it, you’re not the only fantastic looking fox on the planet.
- You may be fantasizing about becoming a topless dancer. This may be
a manifestation of your desire to rebel against your mother’s
Victorian attitudes about sex and nudity.
- You may be experiencing someone else’s dreams. Who knows you that well, and why are they having those types of dreams about you?
- You could be drinking too much. Are you surprised when you wake up and find yourself in bed?
If so, lay off the sauce.
Select any or all of the interpretations or explanations above – whichever
ones make you feel better.
If you’d like the dreams to stop, have someone lock your bedroom door from the outside
every time you go to sleep. That way you can’t go anywhere in public
to undress. Eventually the “naked” dreams should stop. Just make sure you keep an axe in the bedroom so you can
escape in case of fire. If the dreams are someone else’s, there's nothing you can do about it
– just enjoy them.
